Teva CFS Book English
14 Witness the wonder Eli truly believed in the manufacturing and R&D environment as one of creation and craft. One of his most exciting moments was when Copaxone production began, Teva’s first innovative drug that was manufactured in Kfar Saba. “It was a wonder of sorts, which no one really understood how it happened, but it did”, described Chaim Hurvitz. “Everyone was in awe of Copaxone. At the time, the plant was visited on a daily basis by the company’s executive management and board of directors - everyone came to witness this wonder, this new “baby”. My father was as excited as a child that got his dream toy”. Building the Copaxone plant was really a sort of “miracle” - within a very short period of time, and with a relatively reasonable financial investment, the most sophisticated plant in the world at the time was built. “ The plant was built thanks to the management’s vision and commitment and a lot thanks to the staff, which did the unbelievable “says Chaim. A habitat for new products The first 20 years after Teva penetrated the American market are unequivocally identified with the Kfar Saba site, which conquered peak after peak. Almost all of the successes and all the new products that were launched, relied exclusively on the plant. Chaim Hurvitz says “My father was very proud of the plant. He saw it as a cornerstone for Teva’s strength and power, and everything it entailed. For him, Kfar Saba was an efficient and safe plant with excellent quality control. His expectations of the plant were undoubtedly very high”. Kfar Saba says goodbye to the late Eli Hurvitz The late Eli Hurvitz passed away in November 2011. A few months after he died, in early 2012, the Kfar Saba municipality decided to pay its last respects to the entrepreneur that became an inseparable part of the city. “The initiative to change the name of the street where the plant is located and to name it after my father, was very moving”. Says Chaim Hurvitz, “We didn’t expect it and we were proud and grateful. This is definitely not an initiative to be taken for granted - it is a beautiful gesture by the mayor”. This is how Kfar Saba said goodbye to the late Eli Hurvitz, but he will always be remembered as the life and spirit behind the plant . “ Everyone was in awe of Copaxone... My father was as excited as a child that got his dream toy ” [Chaim Hurvitz] HaShikma Street in Kfar Saba was officially renamed Eli Hurvitz Street on 5.9.12. The moving unveiling was attended by the Mayor of Kfar Saba - Mr. Yehuda Ben Hamo, the CEO of Teva - Mr. Jeremy Levin, the Hurvitz family, and Teva executives
